Gain the skills to make a difference in people's lives through food and nutrition with La Trobe University's Bachelor of Food and Nutrition.
In this degree, you'll learn how to work with people, communities and organisations to help prevent many chronic diseases and optimise health. Designed by leading food and nutrition science experts and in collaboration with industry, you'll explore topics such as the nutrition science and metabolism, environmental sustainability of our food systems and diets, food product development, culture and food, nutrition assessment, individual and public health nutrition across the lifespan, and links between nutrition and disease.
Depending on your study mode, you can tailor your studies through electives or an open access minor, with recommended nutrition minors.
You'll prepare for your career at every stage of the degree, with the option to exit early via the Diploma or Associate Degree in Food and Nutrition.

Domestic students:
Recent secondary education (Year 12)
This course uses the ATAR as part of its selection considerations.
VCE: Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL.
Selection rank adjustments
VCE: A study score of 25 in any Mathematics or any Science equals 4 aggregate points per study. A study score of 20 in any LOTE equals 4 aggregate points per study. Overall maximum of 12 points.
Higher education, VET and work/life experience applicants
Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.
Successful completion of at least the equivalent of one semester of higher education full-time, study within the last 10 years;
OR
Successful completion of DTN101 Introduction to Nutrition, and one of the following three Open Access Pathway subjects:
ANP1001 Anatomy and Physiology 1; CHM101 Essentials of Chemistry; or PHE1UHW Understanding Health and Wellbeing.
Successful completion of Undergraduate Certificate of Food and Nutrition
VET studies at Certificate IV level or above within the last five years.
Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 or equivalent to be eligible to apply for this course.
Additional selection information
Applicants seeking consideration via Work Recognition must complete all requirements listed on the La Trobe University Work Recognition webpage and submit a Personal Statement, including relevant work experience and reasons for applying for this course.

Applicants who have undertaken studies in a language other than English must demonstrate that they have achieved the required minimum scores in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic) or equivalent. Refer to Language requirements for further information.
Successful completion of the Diploma in Food and Nutrition (PSB Academy) or equivalent food science and nutrition programs within Singapore.

Core requirement Students should possess the ability to interact with visual, auditory or tactile inputs sufficiently to manage their learning environment and to meet professional performance needs. Course-specific requirement In this course, you will be required to complete cooking and food science practicals/assessment tasks. You may need to purchase ingredients and have access to standard kitchen equipment. Cooking or handling foods from across all food groups (including red meat, eggs and milk) is part of the required coursework. Sensory analysis requiring the tasting of food is at your discretion to accommodate special dietary requirements. Students should direct any questions to the Course Coordinators prior to enrolment.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Food and Nutrition may apply for membership with the Nutrition Society of Australia. Membership may be subject to additional or ongoing requirements beyond completion of the degree.
You could also continue your studies through the Master of Dietetics or an honours research course. Eligibility for the Master of Dietetics follows successful completion of appropriate prerequisite subjects and is subject to entry requirements as listed on the relevant course page.
