Common Questions
Yes, the Bachelor of Forensic Science is professionally accredited by the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences. Deakin is the first university in the Asia-Pacific region and the only university in Australia to offer professionally accredited forensic sciences courses, giving you the potential to work anywhere in the world.
You can customise your degree by selecting to specialise in either Forensic Biology or Forensic Chemistry as your major sequence. Please note that enrolment in a Trimester 3 study period is compulsory for the Forensic Biology major.
The course includes extensive practical training in Deakin's purpose-built crime scene training facility and a compulsory professional practice unit that requires you to undertake at least 80 hours of work experience in a course-related host organisation. You will also have the opportunity to visit a court, examine a crime scene, and participate in a 'moot court' which allows students to experience a simulated courtroom environment.
For current or recent Year 12 students, you need a study score of at least 25 in English EAL or at least 20 in English other than EAL, and an unadjusted ATAR of at least 50 or equivalent. The lowest selection rank based on 2026 early and first round VTAC offers is 60.85, and there is a Deakin Guaranteed ATAR of 51 for eligible students. English language proficiency requirements include an IELTS overall score of 6.0 with no band score less than 6.0, or equivalent.
The Bachelor of Forensic Science is 3 years full-time or part-time equivalent. You may be able to study available units in the optional third trimester to fast-track your degree. The course is available at Waurn Ponds (Geelong) with intakes in Trimester 1 (March) and Trimester 2 (July). Direct applications to Deakin for Trimester 2 2026 close on 21 June 2026.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
