Common Questions
In the forensic science stream, you can choose to specialise in either Forensic Biology or Forensic Chemistry. Depending on your major, you'll cover a range of disciplines including toxicology, analysis of illicit drugs, DNA analysis, blood spatter pattern analysis, analysis of physical evidence, and entomology. Note that enrolment in a Trimester 3 study period is compulsory for the Forensic Biology major.
To complete the Bachelor of Forensic Science/Bachelor of Criminology, you must pass 32 credit points in total: 16 credit points from the Bachelor of Forensic Science (S324) and 16 credit points from the Bachelor of Criminology (A329). Most units are equal to one credit point, and as a full-time student you will study four credit points per trimester, usually undertaking two trimesters per year.
This course is available at Waurn Ponds (Geelong) only. It is offered in both Trimester 1 (starting March) and Trimester 2 (starting July) at that location.
Practical learning is a key focus of this course. You will develop your skills in a purpose-built crime scene training facility where you can search for evidence, conduct forensic analysis, and get hands-on training taking an investigation from the crime scene to the courtroom. In the criminology stream, optional internships are available to help you bridge theory with practice, and you can even take your learning overseas to gain a global perspective on how other countries approach criminology.
Graduates are prepared to tackle criminal justice issues in fields such as anti-corruption agencies, correctional services, community services, crime prevention agencies, intelligence agencies, law enforcement, local, state and federal government, private security industries, and state and federal police. The course is designed with input from professional bodies including Victoria Police and the Australian Crime Commission.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
