Common Questions
To be considered for admission, you need to have completed a bachelor degree or a major in a related discipline with a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 65 in all level three or four Deakin units (or in final year units for awards from other providers). Doctor of Medicine (H911) students who do not meet these criteria will require a minimum GAMSAT score of 60 and must have successfully completed a minimum of 8 credit points of the Doctor of Medicine.
To complete the Bachelor of Health and Medical Science (Honours), you must pass 8 credit points. This includes the DAI001 Academic Integrity and Respect at Deakin (0-credit-point compulsory unit) in your first study period, plus 8 credit points of core units including 4 credit points of an independent research project. In Semester 1 you will study Research Methods (HBS400) and Developing Research Skills (HMH401), and in Semester 2 you will undertake the Honours Research Project (HMH402).
This honours year will prepare you for a career in medical research, as well as acting as a pathway to further study such as a master or PhD program. As a graduate you will be highly sought after for academic, private and government roles in a variety of areas such as biological sciences and clinical research.
You should be able to commit 35 hours a week to your honours degree. Engagement with online course material and scheduled on-campus classes is required, along with regular meetings with project supervisors. Students may also need to attend additional on-campus course activities and events as required.
The estimated tuition fee for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) is $12,553 for 1 year full-time. Enrolling in a Commonwealth Supported Place means the Australian Government pays part of your course fees directly to Deakin, and you pay a 'student contribution'. The tuition fees you pay will depend on the units you choose, as each unit has its own cost, and the estimated fee is provided as a guide only.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
