Bachelor of Health Science (Clinical Nutrition)

The Bachelor of Health Science (Clinical Nutrition) examines the impact of nutritional, dietary and lifestyle factors on health, and how therapeutic nutritional intervention can support wellbeing. Students build foundations in human biology, physiology, pathology and evidence-based practice, then study how food and other dietary factors can improve wellbeing at an individual, community or population level, graduating ready to begin clinical nutrition practice as a Certified Practicing Nutritionist within the Allied Health profession. Work-integrated learning and clinical practicum experience are embedded throughout the course and incorporated into theory subjects, with clinic practical hours delivered 100% on campus at the purpose-built student-led clinic, The Practice Wellbeing Centre, where students treat public patients under the guidance of experienced nutritionists. The course meets the requirement of certain health funds that at least 25% of clinical nutrition subjects include on-campus delivery, and totals 455 hours of work-integrated learning.

Learning outcomes include consulting with the public under professional guidance, understanding the therapeutic use of clinical nutrition in preventing and treating health conditions, taking an evidence-based approach to food science, and understanding dietary requirements across the lifespan. On completion, graduates are eligible to join the Australasian Association and Register of Practicing Nutritionists as a Certified Practicing Nutritionist, and may also apply for recognition with the Australian Natural Therapists Association, the Nutrition Society of Australia, the Australian Traditional Medicine Association and the Complementary Medicine Association. This AQF Level 7 course is delivered on campus and in blended mode at Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, over three years full time or six years part time.
