Common Questions
Students are required to complete approximately 640 placement hours in total. This includes on-campus residential schools in Darwin and community-based practice education placements. In Year 3, students attend a 5-day residential school each semester. In Year 4, students attend two 5-day residential schools (10 days total), a 20-day practice education placement, and two community-based placements totalling 60 days in their final semester. Students must self-fund attendance at residential schools and placements, including travel and accommodation costs.
Yes, the Bachelor of Health Science/Master of Speech Pathology is accredited by Speech Pathology Australia. Graduates of this course are eligible to apply for membership with Speech Pathology Australia upon completion.
The course is primarily delivered online; however, students cannot complete it entirely online. Mandatory on-campus residential schools must be attended in Darwin, NT. In Year 3, a 5-day residential school is required each semester, and in Year 4, two consecutive 5-day residential schools plus practice education placements are required. Community-based placements may also require travel or relocation for 5–8 weeks to a regional or remote location.
International students must meet high English language standards. For IELTS Academic, a minimum overall score of 8.0 is required with no score below 8.0 in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. For PTE Academic, a minimum overall score of 82 with no score less than 82 in any component is required. For TOEFL iBT, a minimum overall score of 110 is required with minimum sub-scores of 29 in reading, 28 in listening, 30 in writing, and 26 in speaking. Cambridge Advanced English (CAE) and Common European Framework certificates are not accepted for this course.
Yes, the Bachelor of Health Science/Master of Speech Pathology is a highly competitive course with a limited number of places. Meeting the minimum entry requirements does not guarantee an offer, as applicants are ranked. Subquotas are in place specifically for First Nations and NT Resident applicants. First Nations students are highly encouraged to apply and can access CDU's First Nations Student Support team throughout their degree, as well as 'away from base' funding for residential school and placement attendance if they meet eligibility requirements.
