Bachelor of High Performance Sport (Honours)

The Bachelor of High Performance Sport (Honours) is a one-year degree, or equivalent part-time study, taught in English, for high-achieving students who have already completed a relevant bachelor degree. Students initially develop an understanding of ethical research design, practice and analysis within a high performance research setting. That knowledge is then incorporated into an original and independent research project conducted under the supervision of academic staff and/or industry professionals with expertise in the field, developing research skills that assist with future higher degree study while working closely with an academic expert in a particular area of interest. To qualify for the award, a student completes 80 credit points, made up of 30 credit points of coursework units and 50 credit points of thesis units. The coursework component covers research methods in biomedical and health sciences research, communicating research in biomedical and health sciences, and a choice between qualitative research methods in health science or statistics for biomedical and health sciences research; the honours thesis then runs across consecutive ACU Terms in either the full-time or part-time sequence. Progress through the thesis component is closely monitored by each student's research supervisor, and students are advised by the Course Adviser throughout the course. The degree is offered at ACU's Blacktown, Brisbane, Melbourne and Strathfield campuses. In an increasingly competitive job market, an honours degree gives graduates an edge over candidates who hold only an undergraduate degree. Graduates are eligible to apply for postgraduate studies in high performance sport, for clinical exercise physiology courses if they are seeking exercise physiology accreditation, and for further study in other allied health professions.
