Common Questions
Yes. The Human Services major is accredited by Community Work Australia (CWA), formerly the Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA). To receive CWA professional body recognition, students must complete all 90 credit points specified in the Human Services major. This accreditation supports graduates who wish to work professionally in community work and human services roles in Australia.
Students completing the Human Services major will undertake 400 hours of community-based placements with humanitarian, human services or development aid organisations in Australia or overseas. There is also a compulsory two-week intensive unit at Casuarina Campus (HCS261 Fundamentals of Humanitarian Practice), which provides knowledge and skills for humanitarian assistance. International placements are available with industry partners, including in the Asia Pacific region. Any travel and accommodation related expenses for intensives and placements are at the student's expense.
Yes, the Bachelor of Humanitarian Aid and Development is available both on campus at the Casuarina Campus and online. Intakes are available in Semester 1, Semester 2, and Summer Semester. Note that the compulsory intensive unit (HCS261 Fundamentals of Humanitarian Practice) must be completed in Intensive 4 at Casuarina Campus, regardless of your study mode.
The annual tuition fee for full-time international students in 2026 is AUD $29,800.00, which equates to $3,725.00 per 10 credit point unit (0.125 EFTSL). These fees are subject to annual increases effective at the start of each calendar year. CDU also offers a number of scholarships to international students to assist with the cost of study.
Students can choose to focus their specialist electives in one of four pathways: the Human Services major (CWA-accredited, requiring 90 credit points from specified units including two 200-hour placements), Indigenous Engagement, Skills for Humanitarian Practice, or Development in Practice. Students may also combine units from across these areas. Only students completing the Human Services major receive CWA professional body recognition and undertake the 400-hour placement requirement.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
