Introduces the principles of academic and business enquiry relevant to the student's discipline area. Students will undertake an investigative process commonly used in undergraduate business studies.

Yes, the Bachelor of Information Technology is accredited by the Australian Computer Society (ACS). An ACS accredited program strengthens your job prospects, supports skills assessment for future pathways, and shows employers you're job ready here in Australia and around the world. Additionally, as Melbourne Polytechnic is a corporate member of the ACS, students enrolled in the BIT are eligible to receive complimentary Student Supported Memberships (SSM) from ACS for the duration of their studies.
Students can choose to specialise in one of three major streams: Network Security, Software Development, or Business Analytics. You complete 6 subjects from your chosen major stream, plus 4 elective subjects drawn from the other streams, in addition to the 14 core subjects required of all students.
Students can earn an industry-recognised SAS Academic Specialisation certification in analytics from SAS Institute, a trusted data & AI leader. It is a globally respected credential that comes with a digital badge. Students are awarded the SAS certificate and badge for completing 4 subjects marked with an asterisk (*) in the course map, including subjects such as Mathematics for IT, Foundations of Software, Hardware & Cloud Computing, Database Systems, Enterprise Resource Planning, Business Analysis, Knowledge Management Systems, Business Intelligence, E-Business Systems, and Advanced Databases.
If plans change mid-course, flexible exit pathways are available. Students who complete 16 subjects may be eligible to exit with an Associate Degree, subject to eligibility. The full Bachelor of Information Technology requires completion of 24 subjects.
Successful completion of the Bachelor of Information Technology will enable you to enrol in postgraduate study, including Melbourne Polytechnic's Master of IT, which is specialised in Cyber Security and Data Analytics. The Bachelor of IT is designed to fast-track your skills and open doors to advanced career opportunities and research pathways, making you part of one of the most in-demand areas of the digital future.
