Bachelor of Information Technology

The Bachelor of Information Technology at Academies Australasia Polytechnic equips students with the essential knowledge and skills relevant to any business to develop, implement and manage software products for commercial companies, software development companies and government. Students learn to manage multidisciplinary, data-driven Information Technology solutions and to develop meaningful approaches to continually evolving business applications and web- and cloud-based systems and environments. The degree aims to give graduates generic and broad employability skills, as expressed through the course learning outcomes and graduate attributes, as well as the specific knowledge and skills consistent with the target work roles. The three-year structure moves from foundations to application: first year covers technology and innovation, computational science, programming fundamentals and systems design and engineering, with electives spanning accounting, human resource management, digital and social media marketing, business law, management, cybercrime, operating systems and web technologies. Second year covers object-oriented programming, networking fundamentals, database foundations and cyber security principles, with electives in project management, cyber law and risk, business communication, Internet of Things programming and blockchain technology. Third year is all core and covers professional development for emerging leaders, two Information Technology project subjects, business analytics, strategic thinking, artificial intelligence and machine learning, agile software engineering, and virtualisation and cloud computing. Graduates typically work for commercial and government organisations across tourism, finance, health, retail, IT consulting and security, nationally and internationally.
