Common Questions
The degree consists of 26 subjects in total, including 12 core IT subjects, 8 IT specified elective subjects, 4 general elective subjects, and 2 Work Integrated Learning (WIL) subjects.
Built into the Bachelor of Information Technology (Big Data and Analytics) are two Work Integrated Learning (WIL) subjects, completed over two trimesters, in which students undertake a Professional Placement (also sometimes called an 'Internship'). This equates to a minimum of 600 hours of industry experience and 180 hours of self-study. In the study period prior to the first WIL subject, ICMS consultants work to secure a suitable placement that is the best fit for the student's unique skills, interests and professional goals.
Graduates specialise in Business Data Analytics, Applied Data Mining, Computational Thinking and Algorithms, Big Data Systems, Data Visualisation and Storytelling, Web and Text Analytics, AI and Machine Learning, and Data Governance. The degree also emphasises professional development through project management studies and real-world experience gained via professional placements.
Yes. ICMS is a proud member of the Australian Computer Society (ACS) Professional Partner Program (PPP) and provides free ACS membership to information technology students. This gives students access to cutting-edge industry knowledge and mentoring, ACS Skillsoft (a digital library with more than 35,000 learning resources), over 400 networking and professional development events annually, and tailored career advice and support. Please note, membership with the ACS does not constitute course accreditation by ACS.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
