Bachelor of International Development Studies

The Bachelor of International Development Studies, which ACU abbreviates as BIntDevSt, is a 240 credit point degree with a minimum duration of three years full-time or the equivalent part-time. ACU's 2024 handbook lists Melbourne as the only approved location for the course. To qualify for the degree a student completes 220 credit points of specified units together with 20 credit points of Core Curriculum units. The specified study comprises an 80 credit point International Development Studies major, a 10 credit point Community Development unit, 50 credit points of Global Studies units, 40 credit points taken either as a Bachelor of Arts minor or as electives from the Bachelor of Arts and Diploma in Languages schedules, 20 credit points of research methods units and 20 credit points of fieldwork units. Units listed in the schedule include YSED303 Community Development, GEOG110 Exploring Natural Environments, GEOG111 Exploring Human Environments, GEOG214 Sustainability: The Global Challenge, GEOG216 Climate Change: Past, Present and Future, HIST106 Australian Indigenous Peoples Past and Present, SOCS210 The Social and Cultural Life of Fijian Young People, SOCS243 Global Health, HIST251 Human Rights in History and POLS105 Introduction to Human Rights. Students are required to follow the pattern of unit enrolment set out in the relevant Course Enrolment Guide unless otherwise approved by the Course Coordinator. ACU records one exit point: students who have met the requirements of the Diploma in Liberal Arts can exit with that award.
