You can study one or more of three major options: Global Sustainable Development (investigates the practical and ethical issues surrounding development, human and environmental security, and the challenges of poverty and inequality), International Relations (focuses on understanding your place in the national and global political systems and aims to study and solve some of the world's major problems such as war, inequality, and climate change), and International History (helps students understand global issues from a historical perspective including what explains the rise and fall of powerful states and empires and what lessons can we learn from past conflicts and challenges).
The minimum Selection Rank for guaranteed entry is 72. Your Selection Rank is your ATAR or IB Combined Rank plus any adjustments you are eligible to receive. The IBAS equivalent is 26.75. Adjustment factors such as the subjects you are studying, the location of your school, or your eligibility for equity and access schemes may be taken into consideration to increase your Selection Rank.
Yes, you will be able to take advantage of global opportunities including internships and the chance to study abroad as part of your degree. You can also undertake a minor in either French, Spanish, English as a Global Language, or International Relations Extension. The Extension minor allows you to complete the Bachelor of International Relations and the Master of International Relations in four years.
The Bachelor of International Studies can be combined with several other degrees, including the Bachelor of Communication and Media, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Business, and Bachelor of Arts in Western Civilisation.
The Bachelor of International Studies has two intakes per year. Autumn Session 2026 starts on 2 March 2026, with domestic (UAC Early Bird) applications due by 30 September 2025 and domestic (direct) applications due by 31 December 2025. Spring Session 2026 starts on 27 July 2026, with domestic (direct) applications due by 31 May 2026. International students have separate application deadlines of 9 December 2025 for Autumn and 5 May 2026 for Spring.
