Students must complete at least 2 credit points of international experience, which can be fulfilled through: a trimester of study at an overseas university exchange partner, an international internship (AIS330 or AIS331), an in-country language program (in Chinese, Indonesian or Arabic), an approved study abroad program or approved study tour (AIS203 or other), an approved onshore internship with an international organisation (available for AIS330 only), or 2 credit points of consecutive language units other than an in-country language program. It is envisaged that students would complete the international experience in the third or fourth year of their course.
To complete the Bachelor of International Studies/Bachelor of Commerce, you must pass 32 credit points in total — 16 credit points from the Bachelor of International Studies (including 6 credit points of core units, 1 international studies major worth 8 credit points, and at least 2 credit points of approved international experience) and 16 credit points from the Bachelor of Commerce (including 8 credit points of core units and 1 commerce major worth 8 credit points).
For the Bachelor of International Studies, you can choose from: Anthropology, Arabic, Chinese, Indigenous Studies (online only), Indonesian, International Relations, Middle East Studies, Politics and Policy Studies, or Spanish. For the Bachelor of Commerce, you can choose from: Accounting, Economics, Finance, Financial Planning, Human Resource Management, Management, Management Information Systems, or Marketing.
The course is available at Burwood (Melbourne), Waterfront (Geelong), and Online. Trimester 1 (March start) is available at all three locations; Trimester 2 (July start) is also available at all three locations; Trimester 3 (November start) is available at Burwood (Melbourne) and Online. Note that students enrolled at Geelong will be required to undertake units of study at both Waurn Ponds (Geelong) and Waterfront (Geelong).
The lowest selection rank ATAR varies by location. At Burwood (Melbourne) it is 80.60, at Waterfront (Geelong) it is 70.60, and at the Online location it is listed as unpublished (NP), meaning the course is available but the lowest selection rank is not available. Deakin also offers a Guaranteed ATAR for eligible students: 70 for Burwood, 60 for Waterfront (Geelong), and 65 for Online.
