The Bachelor of International Studies (Honours) normally involves one additional year of study following the successful completion of a three-year undergraduate degree. It consists of 50% coursework and 50% research work, with the research component taking the form of a research thesis supervised by an academic employed in the Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities.
To qualify for entry into Honours, students must have completed a bachelor's degree with an average of at least 75% across the major (or majors) in which the Honours degree will be undertaken, with the additional requirement of a Distinction in two of the 300-level subjects required by the major. Applicants are also required to complete a 500-word outline of the proposed thesis topic.
The Bachelor of International Studies (Honours) takes 1 year full-time, or a part-time equivalent. It is offered at the Wollongong campus with intakes in Autumn 2026 (starting 2 March 2026), Spring 2026 (starting 27 July 2026), and Autumn 2027 (starting 1 March 2027).
Yes, Honours research topics are various and negotiable. If you are really interested in a topic and want to find answers, you'll be encouraged and supported by expert staff. Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
