Seminar units of study relevant to your research project (from History, Languages and Cultures, and Social Sciences)
Provide training in critical analysis and the application of theoretical approaches to case studies.
Common Questions
Students must complete a substantial independent research project on an approved topic of their choice, culminating in the submission of a thesis of approximately 20,000 words. The research should identify an area for investigation which makes an original contribution to knowledge, and students work on the thesis throughout the course under the supervision of an academic staff member with expertise in their chosen area.
You may need to arrange a supervisor before you apply. You should contact the honours coordinator in the relevant faculty or school for information about honours projects and potential supervisors. It is best to find a supervisor with experience in your topic area, and you may need to meet with your proposed supervisor to discuss your proposed research topic. You should provide evidence of their support with your application.
Students are encouraged to commence the application process in their final year of the Bachelor of International Studies, or equivalent degree at another institution. The standard closing dates are 15 January of the commencing year for Semester 1, and 25 June of the commencing year for Semester 2. The University strongly encourages applicants to apply as early as possible, as offers are made on a rolling basis and places are limited.
In addition to the thesis, you will complete two 'seminar' units of study relevant to your research project, drawn from the disciplinary areas of History, Languages and Cultures, and Social Sciences. These units provide training in critical analysis and the application of theoretical approaches to case studies.
Yes, students studying a comparable degree at another institution can apply. All students must submit an application to the University, and those from other institutions are directed to visit 'How to apply for an honours degree' for detailed information on the application process.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
