About This Course

Adelaide University's Bachelor of Journalism gives you the expertise to tell impactful stories across multiple media platforms. You develop skills in news gathering, writing and multimedia production, learning to record and edit audio and video content, write for online audiences, and create immersive journalism using the latest technologies.
First year introduces the principles of journalism and multimedia journalism, covering the foundations of journalism and news writing, the basics of audio and video editing, and essential skills in multimedia reporting and presentation. Second year builds on these with a focus on practical application through courses including Feature Writing, TV and Video Journalism, and Media Law and Ethics, preparing you to report on the ethical, legal and political issues affecting the industry.
You sharpen your critical analysis skills, develop your own long-form journalism project, and learn to navigate ethical challenges in journalism and understand its significance in shaping public understanding.
Hands-on experience is a cornerstone of the program: you engage in real-world projects such as creating a news segment, and gain industry experience through internships and industry projects with networking opportunities alongside professionals.
The degree can be taken without a major, or with one of five majors — Creative Writing, Digital and Social Media Storytelling, Immersive Media, Politics, or Strategic Communication.
The program totals 144 units and runs full time over three years across the Magill and Adelaide City campuses. You can exit after one year with a diploma or after two years with an associate degree.

• Work and life experience — Completion of an Adelaide University approved enabling, pathway or bridging program; OR A competitive result in the Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT); OR Qualify for special entry.
