In your third year, you will complete one full semester of supervised professional practice (clinical placement). Organised by RMIT, this is an 80-day placement that provides you with hands-on diagnostic pathology work experience, giving you work-ready skills and industry experience in a diagnostic pathology laboratory.
In addition to studying genomic medicine, you'll have the flexibility to specialise in 2 of the following clinical specialty areas of study: anatomical pathology, clinical biochemistry, haematology, medical microbiology, and transfusion and transplantation science.
Yes, the Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine (Honours) is accredited with conditions by the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS). On successful completion of this program, graduates may apply for professional membership with the Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists (AIMS) subject to meeting specific criteria set by AIMS.
This degree has a practical learning approach, with importance placed on time spent in practice, laboratory-based and work integrated learning activities. You will learn through a mix of teaching methods including lectorials, tutorials, workshops, practical and laboratory sessions, site visits and online materials. Assessment methods include tests, quizzes, essays/reports, presentations, projects, assignments and exams.
