Common Questions
Yes, the course is accredited by the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board (LPAB) and Chief Justice and is an approved qualification for admission to practise law in Queensland. However, graduates must also complete approved practical legal training — either a traineeship at a firm or a practical legal training course — to meet the requirements to practise as a lawyer.
The Bachelor of Laws can be completed in 3 years full-time or 6 years part-time. Options for dual degrees are also available, which can provide multiple pathways towards specialisation in your chosen area of law.
In your first year, you will build a strong foundation of legal concepts and processes in a contemporary setting, supported by JCU's First Year Experience program. In your second year, you will build upon your foundational knowledge to study different areas of law in-depth, including personal property and land law, criminal law, and torts, and can pursue elective law subjects. In your third year, you will advance your legal knowledge and skills by developing expertise in administration, equity, trusts, company, and constitutional law.
The Bachelor of Laws is available at JCU Townsville, JCU Cairns (Nguma-bada campus), and online. All three locations offer intakes in January, May, and September. The course uses hybrid learning environments with integrated technology to connect online and in-person students, and the Cairns campus features North Queensland's first moot court with e-court facilities.
The minimum adjusted ATAR required for entry is 75, along with English (Units 3/4, C) as a subject prerequisite. Applicants with an ATAR of 90 or above are guaranteed entry with all subject prerequisites waived, and applicants with an ATAR of 73 or above are guaranteed entry if they meet subject prerequisites. Pathways into the course include JCU Prep, as well as successful completion of some Certificate III, Certificate IV, or AQF Diploma qualifications.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
