What to expect Gain a multidisciplinary and practical legal education with a JCU law degree. You will study the core concepts of law and learn how to apply your legal skills in varied contexts, including contracts, personal property and land, criminal, company, constitutional, and administrative law. The course is accredited by the Legal Practitioners Admission Board and is an approved qualification for determining your eligibility for admission as a solicitor in Queensland. Graduates must complete approved practical legal training with a traineeship at a firm or a practical legal training course to meet the requirements to practise as a lawyer. Build a legal foundation with JCU The Bachelor of Laws degree can be completed in three years full-time, with options for part-time study and dual degrees available. These can provide multiple pathways towards specialisation in your chosen area of law. In your first year , you will build a strong foundation of legal concepts and processes in a contemporary setting, supported by JCU's First Year Experience program, which provides personalised study guidance. In your second year, you will build upon your foundational knowledge to study different areas of law in-depth, including personal property and land law, criminal law, and torts. Pursue elective law subjects to suit your career interests and goals. In your third year, you will advance your legal knowledge and skills by developing expertise in administration, equity, trusts, company, and constitutional law. It consists of extra study and the development of a personal research project and thesis. An Honours degree is usually essential for entry to research higher degrees.
