About This Course

The Bachelor of Laws is a four year accredited professional course that meets the academic requirements for admission to practice as a lawyer in NSW. It has been benchmarked with undergraduate law degrees from around Australia. The Bachelor of Laws continues to emphasise law in its social, cultural, economic and environmental context and has been developed with a particular emphasis on professional skills. Undergraduate law is traditionally offered over 4 years and includes a suite of compulsory law units for accreditation purposes. Elective subjects enable students to tailor the course to their particular interests and develop specific skillsets.

International students:

IELTS (Academic) overall band 7 with minimum sub-scores: listening 6.5, reading 6.5, writing 6.5, speaking 6.5, or an approved equivalent
CRICOS-registered course - a valid student visa is required to study on campus

What HSC English subjects are accepted for entry into the Bachelor of Laws at Macquarie University?

Macquarie University accepts the following HSC English subjects for entry: English Standard (minimum Band 6), English as an Additional Language or Dialect (minimum Band 6), English Advanced (minimum Band 6), English Extension 1 (minimum E3), and English Extension 2 (minimum E3).

Do I need more than just an English subject to be eligible for the Bachelor of Laws?

Yes, in addition to meeting the English subject requirement, applicants must also achieve a minimum Band 6 in any other Category A HSC subject, or a minimum E4 in any other Extension subject (other than the English Extension subjects already listed).

What is the minimum band required in English Extension subjects for entry into the Bachelor of Laws?

For English Extension 1 and English Extension 2, applicants need to achieve a minimum grade of E3 to meet the academic entry requirements for the Bachelor of Laws at Macquarie University.

Can I use a non-English Category A subject to satisfy the second entry requirement for the Bachelor of Laws?

Yes, any Category A HSC subject other than the English subjects already listed can be used to satisfy the second entry requirement, provided you achieve a minimum of Band 6 in that subject.
