About This Course

Adelaide University's Bachelor of Laws (Honours), Bachelor of Economics is a five years full-time double degree, or the part-time equivalent, giving you two qualifications and two areas of expertise.
The Laws component is the path to a career as a lawyer or legal professional. You begin by exploring the core legal areas required of a legal practitioner in Australia, build a foundation in how the law works and how and why laws change over time, and research past decisions to understand precedent while learning to analyse and interpret laws, regulations and court rulings.
You practise technical drafting for court documents, client communication and advocacy, so you enter the profession understanding dispute resolution and evidence. You also explore contemporary Australian laws, investigate how the justice system deals with criminal responsibility and the purpose of the Australian Constitution, and build strong research and legal problem-solving skills. Practical experience comes through the moot court room, on-campus Law Clinics and placements.
The Economics component prepares you to tackle complex problems affecting everything from government policy to individual households, covering microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics. Together the two halves take you through the legal systems that govern us and the economies we live within, with the practical and analytical skills to work effectively in both.
Studying a double degree expands your knowledge and opens a broader range of career opportunities, and you graduate with transferable skills suited to roles in business, government or non-government organisations.
The program totals 240 units — 144 units of core courses, 6 units of work integrated learning, 30 units of discipline courses and 60 units of electives — over five years, taught at the Adelaide City Campus, with February and July intakes.

To be eligible, an applicant must have achieved at least one of the following minimum entry requirements and demonstrate they fulfil any prerequisite and essential criteria for admission. In cases where there are more eligible applicants than available places, admission will be competitive with ranks based on the entry criteria.
• Secondary education (Year 12) — Completion of a secondary education qualification equivalent to the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).
• Higher education study — Successful completion of at least 6 months full-time study (or equivalent part-time) in a higher education award program in an undergraduate diploma (AQF level 5) or higher.
• Work and life experience — Completion of an Adelaide University approved enabling, pathway or bridging program; OR A competitive result in the Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT); OR Qualify for special entry
