Bachelor of Laws (Honours) (Direct Entry)

Domestic Students

• Direct entry into this degree is not available. To be eligible to apply for a transfer into the Bachelor of Laws (Honours) (course code 1771), students enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws, four-year Direct Entry degree (course code 1777), must have completed at least 124 credit points of compulsory Law subjects, including 48 credit points of 100-level LLB subjects and 42 credit points of 200-level LLB subjects. They must also have achieved a weighted average mark (WAM) of 70% or more based on all 100- and 200-level core LLB subjects.

Work and life experience:

• Admission to UOW is primarily based on your academic qualifications, with work or life experience generally not considered. If you do not meet the academic requirements for this course, we recommend exploring recognized pathway programs, such as those offered by UOW College or the TAFE Tertiary Preparation Certificate (TPC).

Compulsory Work Based Placement:

• Undertaking a work-integrated learning experience during your university education is now a significant contributor to being competitive in securing employment in your field of choice when you graduate from UOW. Law students will complete a Legal Internship subject (LLB3397). This subject is the vehicle for a practical placement, completed over 4 weeks (totaling 140 hours, at 35 hours per week). It is designed to expose students to the application of the law in practice; enable students to understand the importance of developing the skills of legal research, communication, drafting, practice management, and problem solving; and enable students to observe and reflect upon the values, ethical standards, and conduct of the legal profession in practice.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people:

• UOW's Woolyungah Indigenous Centre's Indigenous Admissions Program (IAP) offers an alternative pathway for Indigenous Australians aged 17 and over who are seeking entry into an undergraduate course at UOW. Upon completing the IAP, applicants will be considered for admission based on an interview and assessment of both academic and non-academic qualities. Domestic applicants with overseas qualifications:

• UOW recognises a range of overseas secondary, vocational and higher education qualifications. Your qualifications will be assessed for equivalence to Australian qualifications and the admission requirements for this course.Documents issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by an official English translation. English language proficiency:

• All UOW courses are taught in English and require varying levels of proficiency. If English is not your first language, you must meet the University’s English Language Requirements, which differ by course.
• Accepted international test results include IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge, and OET for specific health-related courses.
• Alternatively, you can fulfill the requirement by completing an English course at UOW College.
