Legal Internship
A practical placement completed over 4 weeks (totalling 140 hours, at 35 hours per week). Designed to expose students to the application of the law in practice; enable students to understand the importance of developing the skills of legal research, communication, drafting, practice management, and problem solving; and enable students to observe and reflect upon the values, ethical standards, and conduct of the legal profession in practice.

By completing your law degree at UOW, you are completing an academic qualification that is recognised for admission as a lawyer in Australia, subject to completing state-approved Practical Legal Training (PLT). Yes. Law students are required to complete a Legal Internship subject (LLB3397), which involves a practical placement completed over 4 weeks, totalling 140 hours at 35 hours per week. It is designed to expose students to the application of the law in practice, develop skills such as legal research, communication, drafting, practice management, and problem solving, and enable students to observe and reflect upon the values, ethical standards, and conduct of the legal profession in practice.
The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) (Direct Entry) is available at two campuses: Wollongong and Liverpool.
As a full-time student, you can expect to commit around 48 hours of study per week. This includes class time and independent study. You may need to factor more time for examination study and practical work and placements.
For Autumn Session 2026, the UAC Early Bird application deadline for domestic students is 30 September 2025, the domestic direct application deadline is 31 December 2025, and the UAC final round deadline is 29 January 2026. The session starts on 2 March 2026.
