Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Media and Communication

You can choose from seven majors: Advertising, Cinema and Screen Studies, Creative Writing and Publishing, Immersive Media, Journalism, Public Relations, and Social Media. Each major provides specialised skills and units tailored to that area of the media and communications industry.

The double degree is accredited by the Victorian Legal Admissions Board, the Media Federation of Australia, and Communication Public Relations Australia (CPRA). The Public Relations major is specifically accredited by the Public Relations Institute of Australia.

Work Integrated Learning is a guaranteed part of this double degree. You will complete law-related professional experience placements at organisations in Australia or overseas, be introduced to legal practice through moot court scenarios and advocacy exercises, and complete a Media and Communications Project relevant to your major study area in a professionally focused, industry-linked project. There is also an optional six- or 12-month professional placement available.

Successful completion of the Bachelor of Laws / Bachelor of Media and Communication requires students to complete units of study to the value of 450 credit points. The course takes 4.5 years full-time or equivalent part-time to complete.

The indicative 2026 yearly tuition fee for international students is $44,970 AUD, with a total indicative course fee of $78,295 AUD. The Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) for 2026 is $373 AUD, which is included within the annual tuition fee. Fees are estimates and subject to change. International students who apply for a Swinburne course are automatically considered for an international scholarship of up to 20 per cent off course fees.
