About This Course

Kick-start your business career with this skills-based Major. Marketing strategies seek to create and deliver something of value to satisfy customer demands and ensure business is conducted for the community's welfare. In a dynamic and competitive marketplace, effective customer-focused marketing is critical to the success of any enterprise. The University of Notre Dame Australia's Bachelor of Arts with a Second Major in Marketing & Public Relations introduces the building blocks to these critical business functions. Marketing & Public Relations (PR) can be combined with any of the first Majors available in the Bachelor of Arts and provides an introduction to marketing, consumer behaviour, public relations and communication. The structure of the Major allows you to complete the required courses and then choose courses that interest you, including international marketing, services marketing, corporate PR and crisis management. This Major, combined with a traditional Arts first major, will equip you with skills that apply to many workplaces.

General Requirements

Applicants with recent Secondary Education: Indicative ATAR/Selection Rank of 70 (Selection Ranks include ATAR plus Adjustment Factors) OR International Baccalaureate (IB) score of 25
Applicants with Higher Education: Successful completion of 2 subjects at an undergraduate level or higher OR Successful completion of the Notre Dame Tertiary Pathway Program (TPP), or a tertiary preparation program from another institution that is deemed to be of a similar academic rigour to the Notre Dame TPP
Applicants with Vocational Education and Training (VET) study: Successful completion of AQF Certificate IV or higher from an accredited provider such as TAFE or a Registered Training Organisation (RTO)
Applicants with Work and Life Experience: Applicants who left secondary education more than two years previously and who have not undertaken VET or higher education study since may be considered for direct entry. Applicants must be 20 years of age as at 1 March in the year of intake and meet one or more of the following:
- Applicants who have completed at least two years of relevant work experience may be considered for direct entry. Applicants must provide evidence of their work experience, including duties undertaken and years of experience, and they must demonstrate that they have the academic capability to undertake undergraduate studies. The Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) may be required.
- Completion of STAT with scores of at least 135 in the Multiple Choice section and 140 in the Written English section (STAT results must have been obtained within the last three calendar years).
- Completion of two Year 12 WACE, HSC or equivalent exams, with a result equivalent to the Indicative ATAR/Selection Rank listed under Secondary Education section above.
Experience Based Entry: If you are currently in Year 12 and completing the ATAR, General, VET, or Enabling pathway, you may be eligible to secure a place at Notre Dame University through experience based entry. Mature age applicants can apply by combining their academic background with relevant work experience.
All applicants need to satisfy the Minimum University Admission Requirements, including those relating to minimum age and English Language Proficiency.

What first majors can I combine with the Marketing & Public Relations second major?

Marketing & Public Relations can be combined with any of the first Majors available in the Bachelor of Arts. It is also available as a second Major and Minor in the Bachelor of Communications and Media, and as a Minor in the Bachelor of Arts (Architecture) and Bachelor of Science.

How many units do I need to complete for the Marketing & Public Relations Major?

Students must complete 200 units of credit. This includes five compulsory courses (Principles of Marketing, Integrated Marketing Communications, Professional Writing, Consumer Behaviour, and Introduction to Public Relations) plus three elective courses chosen from Services Marketing or International Marketing, Corporate Public Relations, Strategic Marketing, and Social Media.

While not a requirement, internship courses and work-integrated learning opportunities are available to enable you to gain on-the-job experience with professionals in your chosen field. Students can also immerse themselves in other cultures with Study abroad, through international exchange programs, study tours, and professional placements.

What fees and financial support options are available for this program?

This program is available as a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP), where the Australian Government pays part of your fees and you pay the student contribution amount, which can be deferred using a HECS-HELP loan. International students pay full fees, with tuition costs depending on study load and discipline. Various scholarships are also available through the Scholarships Finder to assist with costs associated with study.
