About This Course

Adelaide University's Bachelor of Mathematics provides a solid grounding in the theories, principles and technical skills essential to the mathematical sciences, preparing you to interpret numbers, shapes, patterns and relationships.
You build deep knowledge of the abstract theories used in mathematics and statistical modelling, learning fundamental concepts in calculus, algebra, statistics and data taming. First year introduces foundational concepts applicable across a range of careers, including differential and integral calculus and statistical methods, and how mathematics applies to real-world problems.
Second year applies mathematical theories and practices to more advanced topics in linear algebra, mathematical modelling and differential equations. In third year you build industry relationships with Adelaide University partners through the specialised Maths Clinic, an internship or a supervised project, developing communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Coding and digital skills are honed in computer-based practical classes, and knowledge of statistical methods for collecting and analysing data runs through the degree.
Four majors are available — Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Pure Mathematics and Statistics — and a common first year in mathematics gives you the freedom to change specialisation.
The program totals 144 units: 60 units of core courses, 18 units of work integrated learning, 48 units for a major or discipline courses, and 18 units of electives. It runs full time over three years at the Adelaide City Campus, with an additional research-focused honours year available.

To be eligible, an applicant must have achieved at least one of the following minimum entry requirements and demonstrate they fulfil any prerequisite and essential criteria for admission. • Secondary education (Year 12) — Completion of a secondary education qualification equivalent to the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).
• Vocational Education and Training (VET) — Completion of an award from a registered training organisation (RTO) at Certificate IV (AQF level 4) or higher.
• Higher education study — Successful completion of at least 6 months full-time study (or equivalent part-time) in a higher education award program.
• Work and life experience — Completion of an Adelaide University approved enabling, pathway or bridging program; OR A competitive result in the Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT); OR Qualify for special entry.
