About This Course

The Bachelor of Mathematics (Honours) is a broad and flexible four-year degree that builds advanced knowledge in mathematics and related disciplines. It combines mathematics with complementary disciplines so you can tailor the degree to the career you want.
Compulsory courses cover linear algebra, calculus, programming, research in mathematics, probability and statistics, and statistical practice. Across the degree you tackle topics in statistics, data science and applied mathematics, learning advanced mathematical methods and theories and how to apply them to important industrial and social problems.
Major topics range across mathematical modelling, optimisation, fluid dynamics, simulation for decision science and differential equations, with electives available in areas such as survey statistics, Riemannian geometry, spatial statistics and predictive analysis. Four majors are offered: Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Pure Mathematics and Statistics.
You complete an internship, a supervised project or work in the university's dedicated Mathematics Clinic to gain industry experience and build connections.
The honours year focuses on advancing your knowledge in your chosen area of mathematics and provides a pathway into research, alongside the analytical and research skills that broaden career prospects across finance, healthcare, engineering, technology and academia.
The program totals 192 units: 84 units of core courses, 18 units of work integrated learning, 48 units for a major or discipline courses, and 42 units of electives, taught at the Adelaide City Campus.

To be eligible, an applicant must have achieved at least one of the following minimum entry requirements and demonstrate they fulfil any prerequisite and essential criteria for admission. In cases where there are more eligible applicants than available places, admission will be competitive with ranks based on the entry criteria.
• Secondary education (Year 12) — Completion of a secondary education qualification equivalent to the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).
• Vocational Education and Training (VET) — Completion of an award from a registered training organisation (RTO) at Certificate IV (AQF level 4) or higher.
• Higher education study — Successful completion of at least 6 months full-time study (or equivalent part-time) in a higher education award program in an undergraduate diploma (AQF level 5) or higher. This degree requires a Grade Point Average (GPA) equivalent to an Adelaide University 5.0 on a 7-point scale for entry.
• Work and life experience — Completion of an Adelaide University approved enabling, pathway or bridging program; OR A competitive result in the Skills for Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT); OR Qualify for special entry
