This degree will prepare you to help address the world’s future energy needs by taking biomass, wind and tidal power solutions to the next level. Your core courses will cover robotics, new advanced materials, energy generation and transmission, and computer control of physical systems.

What is mechanical engineering? Mechanical engineers design, manufacture and optimise specialist machines and processes. Mechanical Engineering is at the heart of many aeronautical, motorsport and manufacturing teams. You could learn to design self-driving farm machinery for ultra-efficient food production. Or you might tackle health issues by building revolutionary biomechanical solutions for people with disabilities. Mechanical engineers are valued for their generalist knowledge across different engineering disciplines. They are often employed in discipline-agnostic roles as project managers, designers or advisors. Sarah, Taylor, Tom and Jackson featured have used our career-ready placement program to gain the practical workplace skills needed to start their careers after graduation. All University of Newcastle engineering students complete 12 weeks of industrial experience during their degree. This can be completed in one block or as shorter placements of no less than two weeks. Through your work placement you’ll build important professional networks and put your learning into practice. The program is accredited by Engineers Australia. Graduates of this program are able to join as graduate members on completion, and as student members during studies.
