\nThe conferral of the honours degree for double degree students is subject to students completing all requirements of the double degree. Students who subsequently withdraw from their double degree after the completion of honours will only be conferred the honours degree if they have met all requirements for the single degree.

UNSW operates on an HDR Academic Calendar comprising four terms. For 2026, new enrolments can commence from 3 November 2025 (Summer Term, starting 15 December 2025), 5 January 2026 (Term 1, starting 16 February 2026), 20 April 2026 (Term 2, starting 1 June 2026), and 3 August 2026 (Term 3, starting 14 September 2026). All new candidates should enrol by the term start date.
Yes. Finding a supervisor with compatible research interests and working styles is critical to your success as a Higher Degree Research candidate. Most Faculties require applicants to contact potential supervisors before applying. Once you have found a supervisor, you will have a pre-admission interview to discuss your proposed research project and whether appropriate resources will be available, after which you will need to complete the Research Plan form.
Whether you are a domestic or international applicant, you must meet the UNSW English language requirements before submitting an application. You can demonstrate that you meet the requirements through English Language Tests and University English Courses (you must confirm with your testing authority that UNSW has permission to view and verify your test results), prior study in the medium of English, or other qualifications. If you are applying for a scholarship, you must demonstrate that you meet these requirements before the scholarship deadline.
UNSW has three scholarship application rounds per year for international applicants. For Term 2 or 3 2026, the 2025 November Release round closed on 5 September 2025 with offers released from 21 November – 5 December. For Term 1 2027, the 2026 July Release round closed on 17 April 2026 with offers released from 24 July 2026. For Term 2 or 3 2027, the 2026 November Release round closes 14 August 2026 with offers released from 19 November 2026. A China Scholarship Council round is also available for Chinese Nationals wishing to start in Term 3 2026 or throughout 2027.
Once your application has come through to the student system, you'll receive an email confirmation with a UNSW Student ID. You can track your application in your UNSW Apply Online account and upload any documents you may have missed. Your application will then be processed and you'll receive a formal receipt letter. Only once mandatory documents have been accepted will your application be sent to your School for processing. If you have applied for admission only (with alternative funding), the outcome typically takes 6–8 weeks to be processed.
