Common Questions
You choose one media specialisation and one social sciences major. Media specialisations include Cinema Studies, Communication & Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations & Advertising, and Screen Production. Social sciences majors include Economics, Environmental Humanities, Geographical Studies, Global Development, Human Resource Management, Indigenous Studies, International Business, International Studies, Innovation/Strategy & Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Politics and International Relations, and Sociology.
The Bachelor of Media / Bachelor of Social Sciences is a four-year double degree consisting of 32 individual courses — the 16 disciplinary courses of each degree. As a full-time student you'll typically study eight courses per year. You can also study part-time and take advantage of a flexible study load. Studying a double degree allows you to graduate with two qualifications sooner than studying two consecutive degrees.
For domestic students in a Commonwealth Supported Place, the 2026 indicative first-year fee is $17,000 and the indicative full fee to complete the degree is $69,000. For international students, the 2026 indicative first-year fee is $48,500 and the indicative full fee to complete the degree is $209,500. All fees are subject to annual review and are indicative only.
The program integrates professional development at every level, including internships with industry partners and international projects. Students can study overseas for a term through international exchange at one of UNSW's 300 partners in more than 30 countries, with overseas study counting towards the degree and financial support potentially available. On campus, students have access to state-of-the-art production spaces and learn industry technologies in hands-on, work-integrated courses.
Yes. UNSW offers several admission pathways including the ADA Portfolio Entry (submitting a critical reflection or portfolio alongside your ATAR for a reduced entry requirement), the Gateway Admission Pathway (for students from Gateway schools, low-SES areas, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, or humanitarian visa holders), the Indigenous Admission Scheme, and the University Preparation Program for students with an ATAR of 50+ who have experienced educational disadvantage or mature-age applicants returning without an ATAR. International students who do not meet direct entry requirements may be eligible for a pathway program through UNSW College.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
