This knowledge can be used directly to work alongside other health professionals within the medical research and clinical health fields in both private industry and hospital settings and a variety of careers. It is the medical and health professionals in their various roles that are involved in the development of therapies, application of diagnostic methods and treatments associated with health and disease. A flexible, yet rigorous degree, the Bachelor of Medical and Health Sciences (Honours) (Dean's Scholar) is designed specifically for students who wish to study the scientific basis of human structure, function, and health. The first year covers the core sciences, while in second year you choose electives from a wide selection of subjects such as pathophysiology, exercise and cardio-respiratory physiology, genetics, molecular biology, immunology, Indigenous studies, public health, and all specialised areas within chemistry, with potential to also create minors in many of these and other areas to follow your passions. Built into the fourth year of the course, the honours aspect of your degree requires you to undertake a substantial piece of original scientific research, developing essential research skills alongside critical and integrative thinking.

Requirements

Minimum Selection Rank (ATAR or IB Combined Rank plus adjustments) of 90 for guaranteed entry
Assumed knowledge: any two units of English, any two units of Mathematics, and any two units of Science
Recommended studies: Mathematics Standard 2, Biology and Chemistry
Students who have not completed Chemistry and/or Biology in the HSC (or equivalent) are strongly encouraged to enrol in bridging courses offered in February each year
Recent secondary education applicants may be admitted via Early Admission or through UAC
Other accepted high-school qualifications: GCE A-Levels, New Zealand NCEA Level 3, and overseas senior secondary qualifications comparable to Australian qualifications
Higher education applicants: must have completed at least half a year of full-time study (or part-time equivalent) at a Bachelor's degree level or higher
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants may apply through UOW's Woolyungah Indigenous Centre's Indigenous Admissions Program (IAP)
Domestic applicants with overseas qualifications must provide academic records and their course must be at least one-sixth complete; non-English documents must include an official English translation
If English is not your first language, you must meet the University's English Language Requirements; accepted tests include IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, Cambridge, and OET

Yes, this course is available on a full-time basis over 4 years or on a part-time equivalent basis. As a full-time student, you can expect to commit around 48 hours of study per week, including class time and independent study. You may need to factor in more time for examination study, practical work and placements. For part-time students, study hours will vary based on the number of units taken.
