Common Questions
Clinical placements begin in your very first semester. Deakin is the only Victorian university where clinical placements start in Semester 1, and these are based in metro, rural and regional settings across hospitals, community health services and private radiology clinics throughout Australia.
You will learn basic X-ray techniques before advancing to more complex medical imaging procedures including general radiography, interventional imaging, mammography, computed tomography (CT), general ultrasound (U/S), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Before commencing clinical placements, students are required to hold a valid Victorian Working with Children Check (WWCC), obtain a valid Police Record Check every calendar year, have a current immunisation status including COVID-19 vaccinations, and agree to and sign the Student Code of Conduct on commencement of the course. Students may also need a state/territory-specific working with children check for interstate placements.
Upon graduating, you will be eligible for registration as a Medical Radiation Practitioner (diagnostic radiographer). The award conferred is a Bachelor of Medical Imaging, recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework at Level 7.
No, Recognition of Prior Learning is not granted for this course. All students must complete the full course structure of 32 credit points, including 30 credit points of core units and 2 credit points of course elective units, delivered over eight consecutive semesters.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
