Common Questions
Bond's Medical Program takes 4 years and 8 months to complete in total, made possible through Bond's three-semester-per-year accelerated timetable. This makes it the shortest pathway to becoming a doctor in Australia. The program comprises two sequential degrees: the Bachelor of Medical Studies (2 years 8 months / 8 semesters) followed by the Doctor of Medicine (2 years / 6 semesters).
Direct entry into the Bond Medical Program is currently only open to Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents, holders of an Australian Humanitarian visa and New Zealand citizens (not New Zealand permanent residents). Pathways available to international students include successful completion of the Bond Bachelor of Biomedical Science (in the pre-health professional major), Master of Occupational Therapy, Doctor of Physiotherapy, Master of Nutrition and Dietetic Practice, or Master of Healthcare Innovations. Upon completing one of these degrees and meeting the minimum required GPA and pre-requisites, students will be eligible to be considered for selection to enter Year 2 of the Bond Medical Program.
Learning and teaching occurs mainly in small group sessions comprising interactive cases through problem-based learning, practical classes, clinical skills laboratories, and simulation-based education activities in the early years. In the first two years, students undertake weekly small group sessions at Bond's Varsity campus at Robina on the Gold Coast, participate in community-based volunteering activities, various community placements, and engage in a unique cultural immersion workshop as part of the innovative First Nations Program. In year three, students work through authentic patient cases facilitated by experienced clinicians through Bond Virtual Healthcare and complete simulation-based sessions at the Bond University Clinical Education and Research Centre located in Robina Hospital.
The Bond Medical Program is accredited by the Australian Medical Council. Graduates from the Bond MD program meet the requirements for provisional medical registration so they can undertake a period of accredited intern training to become eligible for full registration as a medical practitioner in any state or territory in Australia or New Zealand.
Yes. Bond University is committed to providing opportunities in tertiary education for First Nations Australians, including a First Nations pathway into its Medical Program. Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
