Curtin course switcher criteria To course switch into MBBS, you must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree at Curtin University and not have a tertiary record from any other Australian or overseas university and not have completed a degree at Curtin University. To switch into this course, you need to have: completed at least 200 credits, with a minimum course weighted average (CWA) of 80% or higher and have a minimum of 200 credits remaining in the course at the end of the year preceding admission; and completed the UCAT ANZ test; and completed the Casper Test; and meet the Chemistry pre-requisite (Chemistry ATAR or equivalent) - refer to the Medicine Admissions Guide. The Chemistry prerequisite can be met with: CHEM1003 Introduction to Chemistry with a grade of 60%; and CHEM1007 Fundamental Chemistry for Biosciences or CHEM1001 Biological Chemistry with a grade of 60%. Higher education course switcher criteria Applicants who are currently studying a higher education course at another education provider are unable to transfer to this course. Applicants studying at another institution are required to complete their qualification at the end of the year preceding admission. Applicants who have completed a tertiary qualification are required to meet the following requirements: achieve a notional ATAR of at least 92, derived from the final course marks within a completed qualification. In Year 1 students will enrol in semester 1 and 2 study periods for common core and shared units. Other units will be undertaken as full-year units over a longer study period. In Year 1 the MBBS course is comprised of eight units. In Years 2 – 5 the course is comprised of a single unit per year. These units are full year units and are undertaken over extended study periods of between 32 and 44 weeks’ duration (not including tuition free weeks or examination periods). If a student fails a full year unit and is granted the opportunity to repeat it, the student must repeat the entire unit. That is, the student must repeat the whole year. There will be no partial credit given for successful completion of any assessment tasks and/or unit requirements during any previous attempt of the unit. Students must successfully complete units in each year of the course before commencing the next. Students who fail a full year unit will be required to repeat the relevant year of study. When a student fails a pre-requisite unit that is not offered the following study period, a leave of absence may be granted until commencement of the relevant study period. Notes for completion The MBBS course from Years 2 - 5 has full-year units. If a student exits from the MBBS course during Semester 2 of Year 2, Credit for Recognised Learning (CRL) of 100 credit points will be awarded provided the student has demonstrated satisfactory progress on formative assessment during Semester 1. If a student exits from the MBBS course during Semester 2 of Year 3, Credit for Recognised Learning (CRL) of 100 credit points will be awarded provided the student has demonstrated satisfactory progress on formative assessment during Semester 1. If a student exits from the MBBS course at any point during Year 4 or Year 5, the student will be eligible for an award of a Bachelor of Science (Health Studies).
