About This Course

Mine and engineering surveying is a specialised area within science and engineering. Also known as geomatics engineering or geomatics, the profession has a vital role in the resources industry and related infrastructure development. Mine surveyors are responsible for the measurement, representation and management of data associated with a mining operation. Their core responsibilities include marking, measuring and maintaining mine site surfaces and underground workings. Under the Mines Safety and Inspection Act 2020, mine surveyors are also responsible for preparing and updating all mine surveying plans for open pit and underground workings. Engineering surveyors are integral to the construction industry, ensuring that the locations of civil engineering works are positioned and oriented correctly. Engineering surveying typically precedes construction associated with roads, bridges, tunnels, buildings, industrial plants and hydraulic engineering. In this course, you will gain the skills to become a specialist surveyor with expertise in advanced software and equipment, including GPS and drones, to acquire and process land and satellite data.

General Requirements

Minimum ATAR/Selection Rank: 70
Prerequisite subject (Essential): Mathematics Applications ATAR
Prerequisite subject (Desirable): Mathematics Methods ATAR
English language requirement: IELTS Academic overall band score of 6, with minimum 6 in Writing, Speaking, Reading and Listening
Fieldwork requirements: Student declaration, AHPRA registration, Criminal record screening and clearance, Immunisation, First aid, Hand hygiene
VET pathway: AQF Certificate IV (with separate evidence of English language proficiency), or AQF Diploma, or AQF Advanced Diploma, plus met subject prerequisite
Curtin course switcher: Completed Mathematics Applications ATAR (or equivalent); or Bachelor of Surveying (Honours) students may be considered with a possible maximum 400 credits of prior learning
The Mathematics Applications ATAR prerequisite can be met with one of the following Curtin units: MATH1013 Introductory Mathematics, MATH1014 Foundations of Calculus, or MATH1015 Linear Algebra

You'll study the first two years of your course at Curtin Perth and your third year at Curtin Kalgoorlie, where you'll have opportunities to engage with industry practices in the heart of Western Australia's Goldfields region.
