Common Questions
Yes. The BMinTh can be studied on campus or online, providing students with the flexibility to balance study with work and family commitments. Note that units chosen from other Schools may not be available in both on campus and online study modes.
All Church Ministry (CHMN) coded units are associated with supervised field education. Students experience two types: Placements, where students are on placement for 4 hours per week for 10 consecutive weeks in an approved ministry placement; and Externships, where students are immersed in an evangelistic context for 10 consecutive days, inclusive of two weekends. Field education is an apprenticeship whereby ministry students are teamed with pastors who supervise, support and mentor the student throughout ministry placements.
Yes. In addition to academic entry requirements, applicants must provide a satisfactory Pastoral Recommendation Form completed by their church pastor, agree to abide by Avondale Seminary's Acceptance of the Code of Professional Ethics, provide a National Police Check (issued within the last six months), and hold a current Working with Children Check. SDA applicants must have been baptised for two years and provide evidence of active church involvement. From 2025, all incoming theology students are also required to undertake psychological testing at their own expense.
Graduates are equipped to serve as a Church Pastor, Youth Pastor, School or Community Chaplain, Pastoral Educator, Evangelist, or Church Planter. Seventh-day Adventist graduates are also eligible to begin a ministry internship in a local conference, and after two years of internship their progress is reviewed to determine readiness for a ministerial or commissioned licence, with ordination possible after a further three or more years of satisfactory ministry practice.
Yes. Students can elect to add a major in Chaplaincy by selecting Pathway 2. The Chaplaincy major consists of units including Principles & Practice of Chaplaincy, Clinical Pastoral Experience I and II, Foundational Counselling Skills, Emotional & Behavioural Responses, plus an additional 3 units from the Church Ministry Major. Students who complete the Chaplaincy major complete 32 units in total (compared to 32 units with 2 electives for the three-major pathway) and do not choose any electives.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
