To complete the course, you must complete a total of 288 credit points comprising: six common units (72 credit points), a Music major (96 credit points), QUT You (24 credit points), and complementary studies (96 credit points) which can be structured as a second major, two minors, one minor plus electives, or 96 credit points of electives.
You will be mentored by experienced staff with national and international industry links to associations such as QMusic, APRA/AMCOS, Gyrostream, and Socialstate Entertainment. You can participate in the capstone student-run record label, Vermilion Records, where you will manage artists, produce and release new music, publish a biannual music magazine, produce music videos, and curate live events in partnership with venues across Brisbane. There are also professional industry placements and projects, and opportunities to participate in intercultural music projects via study tours.
Yes, you can combine your music degree with a second study area. Double degree options include behavioural science (psychology) for a career in music therapy or community music, business for arts management or event management, law for roles such as music lawyer or intellectual property lawyer, and education (secondary) to prepare you to teach music in secondary schools. Note that additional entry requirements apply to the Bachelor of Education.
You can focus on production — developing skills in songwriting, studio recording, sequencing, digital processing, and writing for acoustic, electric and digital instruments — or on performance, developing your unique performance style and artistic voice using digital technology. If your passion is making music for film, television, animation, games or other transdisciplinary media environments, you'll have opportunities to work with students in those disciplines as well.
QUT offers internationally recognised facilities with purpose-built recording and rehearsal studios that are state-of-the-art. Students gain experience in both recording studio and live performance environments and have the opportunity to present their work across a network of Brisbane's live music venues. Teaching staff are industry-leading creative practitioners with links to QMusic, APRA/AMCOS, Gyrostream, and Socialstate Entertainment.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
