Common Questions
There are three steps: First, submit your course application through the University of Sydney (domestic applicants apply via UAC, international applicants apply directly). Second, register for your audition and/or interview via the Acceptd portal, where you will enter your University of Sydney application number, select your degree and program, schedule your audition timeslot, upload required files, and pay the audition registration fee of USD $30. Third, prepare your audition and/or portfolio using the Undergraduate Audition Guide, which details audition requirements and repertoire expectations for each program.
Preparation depends on your chosen program. Performance applicants (instrumental or vocal) present a live audition at the Conservatorium, or may submit a video if they live outside Sydney. Music Theatre applicants submit a video audition first and, if successful, attend a live invite-only audition. Portfolio areas such as Composition, Contemporary Music Practice, and Musicology require submission of a portfolio and attendance at a Zoom interview. The Undergraduate Audition Guide (available in English and Simplified Chinese) details the audition requirements and repertoire expectations for each program.
Auditions and interviews are held twice a year during the NSW school holidays in July and September. Applicants choose the round they wish to audition in, though a select group of program areas are only held in the September round. Auditioning in July may benefit applicants by freeing up time around the HSC or other study commitments later in the year.
In the Bachelor of Music, students specialise in discipline-specific studies in popular music, film and television, or in the media and tech industry. Core studies include performance and ensemble practice, music theory and aural skills, and music analysis, history and culture studies. Students in their final year can undertake music specialist project work or honours for further research study.
Yes, eligible domestic applicants may apply for an early offer from the Conservatorium through the Creative Arts Special Admissions Scheme before receiving their ATAR. Separate deadlines also apply for scholarship applications, so prospective students should check the scholarship closing dates in advance.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
