The Bachelor of Music offers three full-time duration options: 6 Trimesters (Fast Track, approximately 2 years), 8 Trimesters (approximately 2.5 years), and 9 Trimesters (approximately 3 years). A part-time option is also available for domestic students, though it is not available for international students. Students have the flexibility to change their study load throughout the course if needed.
For domestic students, the course consists of 22 units at $2,999 each and 1 unit at $5,998, with an indicative annual course fee of $23,992 AUD (based on 1.0 EFTSL), plus a Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF). FEE-HELP is available. For international students, the fee is 22 units at $3,495 each and 1 unit at $6,990, with an indicative annual course fee of $27,960 AUD, plus SSAF.
Students can choose from four specialist elective areas: Songwriting and Music Production (focusing on scoring, notation, arrangement, and advanced studio production including mixing and mastering); Electronic Music (covering digital mixing, mastering, sound design, sampling, synthesis and live electronic music); Music Industry (covering artist and event management, digital music strategies, marketing and entrepreneurship); and Creative Musicianship (exploring branding, creative identity, performance skills incorporating technology, and future-focused music making).
Yes, the Bachelor of Music includes Work Integrated Learning (CIM310), which provides a professional experience placement requiring a minimum of 80 hours at one or more host organisations. This ensures graduates have practical industry experience, and SAE consults closely with industry partners to provide work placement opportunities.
The course is divided into three stages. Stage 1 focuses on foundational skills development, covering essential technical skills, creative process, project design, communication and industry knowledge. Stage 2 involves interdisciplinary projects, media and cultural studies, with students working on real-world scenarios alongside students from other disciplines. Stage 3 involves mentorship, a major project, and work placement, preparing students for entry-level professional industry roles or postgraduate studies through sophisticated collaborative projects that meet professional industry standards.
