Performance Major 1
Deepen your technique and artistic expression on your chosen instrument or voice through weekly private lessons and a Performance Practice class spanning masterclasses, workshops, and seminars. Includes a weekly Aural Skills class.
Music Specialisation Electives 1 & 2
Choose two modules from AIM's range of music specialisation electives. Available streams include Music Business, Composition, Creative Technology, Performance, and Acting (Sydney only).
Introduction to Higher Education Studies
Builds academic skills including written and spoken communication at a tertiary level, covering essay technique, referencing, and scholarly research practices, alongside academic integrity and self-directed learning.
Music Materials 1
Introduces the core materials of music including pitch, rhythm, and harmony. Examines diverse musical styles, develops skills in reading music notation, and provides an introductory overview of musicology.
Performance Major 2
Advance your playing through weekly private lessons and a Performance Practice class. Repertoire is significantly more demanding than Performance Major 1, with a sharper focus on relationships between content and form, style and genre.
Collaboration Project 1
Industry-focused collaborative project where you apply theoretical and technical knowledge in a practical context, working with peers to design and produce a musical work.
Arts meets Commerce: an overview of the Arts and Entertainment Industry
Broad grounding in the music business, examining the history, function, and key activities of its numerous sectors, using historical analysis as a springboard for forward-looking thinking.
Music Materials 2
Develops musicianship skills, aural appreciation, and understanding of musical structures. Online modules let you explore notation principles across genres and build arrangement skills.
Performance Major 3
Builds toward a public recital at the end of term. Refine your approach to stylistically appropriate performance, learn to construct a balanced recital program, and give attention to performer health and wellbeing.
Collaboration Project 2
Industry-focused collaborative project applying theoretical and technical knowledge within or across disciplinary boundaries, building toward a mid-term proposal presentation of work-in-progress.
Scholarship Unit – Musicology
Select one Musicology unit from a diverse range of topics spanning Western Art Music, Popular Music, Jazz, Screen Music, Game Music, and beyond.
Elective

Continue refining your approach to stylistically appropriate performance and developing technical and sight-reading skills through weekly private lessons and Performance Practice classes. Strengthen capacity as a reflective musician.

Performance Major 5
Prepares you for your Capstone Project, giving space to experiment with different stylistic performance techniques while deepening your practice as a reflective artist. Includes weekly individual lessons alongside a Performance Practice class.

Industry-focused units applying theoretical and technical knowledge from across your degree in a practical context, designing and producing a musical work in collaboration with peers.
Capstone Project
Propose and realise a major work in your specialisation — whether a live recital, a portfolio of compositions, a recording, an extended essay, or a multimedia presentation. Supported by one-to-one supervision, masterclasses, and guest lectures.
Collaboration Project 4
Building on earlier collaboration studies, apply theoretical and technical knowledge from across your degree in a practical context, designing and producing a musical work.

Domestic applicants are required to attend an interview or live audition and provide a portfolio of two live or recorded music performances. International applicants are required to attend an interview and provide a portfolio of two recorded music performances.
Domestic students complete the course in 6 study periods (2 years full-time) or part-time equivalent. International students complete it in 9 Study Periods (3 years) full-time.
The indicative total course fee for domestic students is $75,600, and for international students it is $85,680. Fees are indicative only and subject to change. FEE-HELP is available for eligible domestic students.
The Bachelor of Music (Performance) is offered at AIM's Melbourne and Sydney campuses, with face-to-face delivery and some online components.
Throughout the degree you will undertake four Collaboration Projects working with peers within or across disciplinary boundaries to design and produce musical works, a public recital in Year 1 Trimester 3, and a Capstone Project in your final trimester where you propose and realise a major work such as a live recital, portfolio of compositions, recording, extended essay, or multimedia presentation.
