Creative Technology Major 1 – Capturing and Creating Sound
Develop foundational audio engineering skills, working through practical tasks and projects designed to build the problem-solving instincts of a modern freelancer. Covers capturing and managing acoustic phenomena, hands-on experience with audio recording equipment, aural problem-solving, and best-practice recording techniques.
Music Specialisation Elective (Module 1 & 2)

Introduction to Higher Education Studies
Builds the academic skills you'll draw on across your entire degree. Covers written and spoken communication at a tertiary level, essay technique, referencing, scholarly research practices, academic integrity and self-directed learning.
Music Materials 1
Introduces the core materials of music, including pitch, rhythm, and harmony. Covers diverse musical styles, reading music notation, and an introductory overview of musicology as an academic discipline.
Creative Technology Major 2 – The Production Process

Creative Technology Major 3 – Delivering Audio

Collaboration Project 2
An industry-focused collaborative project applying theoretical and technical knowledge in a practical context, working within or across disciplinary boundaries to design and produce a musical work, including a mid-term proposal presentation.
Scholarship Unit – Musicology

Apply theoretical and technical knowledge from across your degree in a practical context, designing and producing a musical work in collaboration with peers within or across disciplinary boundaries.
Bachelor of Music Capstone Project
Propose and realise a major work in your specialisation, whether that's a live recital, a portfolio of compositions, a recording, an extended essay, or a multimedia presentation, supported by one-to-one supervision, masterclasses, and guest lectures.

Common Questions
Domestic students complete the Bachelor of Music (Creative Technology) in 6 study periods (2 years full-time) or part-time equivalent, while international students complete the course over 9 study periods (3 years) full-time.
The indicative total course fee for domestic students is $75,600, and for international students it is $85,680. Fees are indicative only and are subject to change by AIM without notice. FEE-HELP is available for eligible domestic students.
Domestic school leaver applicants must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 qualification (or overseas equivalent) in the last 2 years. All applicants are also required to attend an interview and provide a portfolio of two contrasting pieces. Students who have completed the VCAL/VCE(VM) may be eligible for entry into a diploma level course and use that as a pathway into a degree.
The Bachelor of Music (Creative Technology) is available at both AIM's Melbourne and Sydney campuses, delivered face to face with some online components.
The course has three intake dates per year: February, May, and September. For example, Study Period 2 2026 begins with Orientation Week on 25–29 May, with Week 1 starting 1–5 June, and Study Period 3 2026 begins with Orientation Week on 7–11 September, with Week 1 starting 14–18 September.
