Common Questions
All applicants, whether domestic or international, must provide evidence that their English language ability meets the minimum UNSW English Language Requirements. This can be demonstrated through English language tests (e.g. IELTS, Pearson), prior study in the medium of English, or other accepted qualifications. You must confirm with your testing authority that UNSW has permission to view and verify your test results.
International applicants must demonstrate the ability to financially support themselves (and any dependants) for the duration of their studies. This may be through a UNSW Research Scholarship, an alternative scholarship or sponsorship provided by an external source, or through self-funding. All international applicants must complete the Financial Declaration Form and submit supporting evidence such as bank statements from the last 6 months.
New candidates are expected to enrol by the Term Start Date. UNSW operates on an HDR Academic Calendar with four terms per year (Summer Term, Term 1, Term 2, and Term 3). For 2026, term start dates include 15 December 2025 (Summer Term), 16 February 2026 (Term 1), 1 June 2026 (Term 2), and 14 September 2026 (Term 3). New candidates may also enrol up to one month before the term start date.
Yes, applicants can request to defer for up to one year after the initial offer term. Deferrals are only approved where conditions are met, including continuing to meet UNSW entry requirements and availability of supervision and resources. If you have a conditional offer, you should email domestic.grs@unsw.edu.au or international.grs@unsw.edu.au indicating the new term you wish to start in. If you have an unconditional offer, you can log in to Accept Online to defer.
You need to prepare supporting documentation as outlined in the UNSW Document Submission Guidelines. Documents not in English must be translated by a NAATI-accredited translator or a registered translator accepted by an Australian diplomatic mission. Each translation must include the translator's signature and printed name, proof of accreditation, date of the statement, and a declaration that the translation is accurate and complete. Specific scholarship schemes, research programs, or Faculties may require additional documents.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
