Common Questions
Principal Study is offered in Classical and Historical Performance, Jazz, Music Theatre, Drum Set and Chinese instrumental performance.
The audition process involves three steps: first, submitting a course application through the University of Sydney (domestic applicants via UAC, international applicants directly); second, registering for your audition and/or interview via the Acceptd portal, where you enter your application number, select your degree and program, schedule your audition timeslot, upload required files, and pay a USD $30 registration fee; and third, preparing your audition using the Undergraduate Audition Guide, which details requirements and repertoire expectations. Auditions are held live at the Conservatorium, or by video submission if you cannot travel to Sydney.
You will complete core studies in music theory and aural skills, music analysis, history and culture studies, whilst preparing to present end-of-semester performances, including the final recital at the end of the course. You will also undertake professional industry work with the Conservatorium's industry partners, and complete elective units from the Open Learning Environment or the shared pool.
Auditions and interviews are held twice a year during the NSW school holidays in July and September. You choose the round you would like to audition in, but note that a select group of areas are held in only the September round. You will not be put at any disadvantage if you choose one round over the other.
Yes. Eligible domestic applicants may apply for an early offer from the Con before receiving their ATAR through the Creative Arts Special Admissions Scheme. Scholarships are also available, with separate deadlines applying — prospective students are advised to view the scholarship closing dates on the university's website.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
