Common Questions
The Bachelor of Music Studies (Honours) involves two semesters of full-time study, making it a one-year program.
Students undertake a combination of research seminars, classes, supervision and/or individual lessons depending on their area of study, culminating in an independent project supervised by internationally recognised music academics at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (SCM).
You should first contact Associate Professor Helen Mitchell at helen.mitchell@sydney.edu.au to seek permission and put forward an Honours project proposal. Once approved, you submit an application online and register an audition with the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. The standard closing date for Semester 1 entry is 30 November.
Completing a music degree with honours opens the door to many employment and research opportunities, and the program also serves as a preparation for postgraduate study in music.
The program commences in Semester 1 (February), with a standard application closing date of 30 November. Separate deadlines apply for scholarship applications.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
