About This Course

The Bachelor of Networking and Telecommunications (BNeT) course is grounded in foundational mathematics, programming, networking and telecommunications units. These skills and knowledge are then built on in a series of units covering the main areas of today's Networking and Telecommunications industry, including the following: cloud computing; wireless and mobile technologies; operating systems; IP networks; switched and routed networks; optical transmission networks; MPLS networking; and Voice over IP.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Completion of Year 12, or equivalent, with a minimum ATAR of 60 AND NSW (or equivalent) Band 4 Standard English; and NSW (or equivalent) Band 3 Advanced Mathematics; or NSW (or equivalent) Band 4 Standard 2 Mathematics
An equivalent secondary qualification overseas that also meets the mathematics requirement above
An accredited Tertiary Preparation Program or a Foundation Year Program offered by an accredited Australian provider that also meets the mathematics requirement above
One year of completed accredited full-time study at a registered institution of tertiary education at AQF level 5 or above that also meets the mathematics requirement above

International Students:

An equivalent secondary qualification overseas
An accredited Tertiary Preparation Program or a Foundation Year Program offered by an Australian university
One year of successful full-time study in an accredited course at a university or other higher education provider
Admission to candidature for an undergraduate degree at an Australian university

Special/Alternative Admission (applicants 21+ without Year 12):

Successful completion of a Special Tertiary Admissions Test administered by a tertiary admissions centre
Submission of a portfolio of prior and current academic and professional work
Interview with the Dean to assess capacity for higher education studies

IELTS Academic: 6.0 with no band less than 6.0
TOEFL: 575 or better
TOEFL IBT: 91 or better
TOEFL CBT: 235 or better
Academic PTE: 50 or better
Cambridge English CAE and CPE (from 2015): 176 or better
General Certificate of Education (GCE): A Levels with a C or better in English
KITE: all bands B2 with a result greater than 450 in each band
Duolingo: overall 115 with no band less than 110

How long does the Bachelor of Networking and Telecommunications take to complete?

The Bachelor of Networking and Telecommunications is 3 years full-time or 6 years part-time for domestic students. For international students, the CRICOS-registered duration is 156 weeks (3 years) of full-time study across 6 semesters. Note that part-time mode is not available to holders of a student visa who are not Australian citizens, permanent residents, New Zealand citizens, or Australian permanent/temporary residents.

What exit qualifications are available if I don't complete the full degree?

If you complete the 8 100-level units with the Institute (either at the Institute or with Advanced Standing not exceeding 4 of the 100-level units), you will be eligible to obtain the Diploma of Networking Telecommunications (DipNT). To obtain the full Bachelor of Networking and Telecommunications (BNeT), candidates are required to successfully complete all 24 units, with a minimum of 12 units (50%) completed at the Institute.

At which campuses is the Bachelor of Networking and Telecommunications available?

The course is delivered at four campuses: Level 16 / 233 Castlereagh St, Sydney NSW 2000; 107 George St, Parramatta NSW 2150; Level 1 / 237 Ryrie St, Geelong VIC 3220; and 363 King St, West Melbourne VIC 3003. Delivery is blended, meaning it is delivered partially on campus and partially online.

What are the English language requirements for international applicants?

International applicants must meet one of the following English language proficiency requirements: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band less than 6.0; TOEFL 575 or better; TOEFL IBT 91 or better; TOEFL CBT 235 or better; Academic PTE 50 or better; Cambridge English CAE and CPE (from 2015) 176 or better; GCE A Levels with a C or better in English; KITE all bands B2 with a result greater than 450 in each band; or Duolingo overall 115 with no band less than 110. English Language Test results are valid for two years from the date of the results up to the date of commencement at the Institute.

What assessment methods are used in this course?

The Institute uses authentic assessment principles that may include practical exercises, case studies, presentations, reports, online simulations, essays, and examinations. These assessments may include being done under invigilation.
