Common Questions
Supervised Work Integrated Learning of at least 600 hours is required, providing students with experiences of nursing in public and private hospitals and health agencies. The 600 hours of professional placement is spread across several units within the course and is required to meet AHPRA registration requirements. Placement settings may include acute and low care health facilities, community settings, mental health facilities, extended residential aged care, GP practices, health promotion and education, intensive care, health clinics, accident and emergency, palliative care, and primary health care settings throughout NSW and QLD.
Yes. The degree is approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and provides the necessary academic qualification for eligibility as a Registered Nurse in Australia. Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Nursing will be registered by Southern Cross University with NMBA as an enrolled student and will remain registered for the duration of study. Note that in order to register to practise, the Australian Health Practice Regulation Agency standards for English must be met.
For international students, the annual tuition fee is $26,000 (AUD), calculated at $3,250 per unit, based on completing 8 units per year. In addition, students are required to pay OSHC (Overseas Student Health Cover) for the duration of their visa in advance. Tuition fees are in Australian dollars and are subject to change, including annual increases over the duration of the course.
The Southern Cross Model involves shorter, six-week unit structures designed around immersive and interactive learning experiences. Lectures are replaced with active, interactive and discussion-based learning. On-campus students experience a variety of teaching approaches including lectures, tutorials, online activities and video-linked or podcast virtual classes. The online study option is highly interactive and may include podcast or video-linked lectures, electronic study materials, workshops, online discussion forums and virtual classes. The method of teaching and assessment may vary from unit to unit.
Local placements are not guaranteed. While SCU considers your current residential address when allocating placements, it is essential to keep your address up to date in MyEnrolment, as inaccurate information may result in a placement that requires extended travel. Students should be prepared to travel to their allocated placement, which may be outside their immediate local area, and will require access to reliable transport to complete shifts that may occur during mornings, afternoons, nights, and weekends. Students are responsible for organising and covering any associated costs, including travel, accommodation, and related expenses.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
