Switch to 2-year full-time duration. Prerequisites Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English other than EAL; or a study score of at least 27 in English as an Additional Language (EAL) or equivalent studies . Age requirement Applicants must be 18 years of age by 1 December of the first year of the degree in order to meet the mandatory requirements for clinical placements. Underaged applicants who cannot meet this requirement are not eligible for an offer. English proficiency requirements In addition to meeting the RMIT English language prerequisite requirement, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) requires all applicants for the Bachelor of Nursing to provide evidence of meeting the required English proficiency level prior to entry. If you are applying direct to RMIT, you must complete and submit the Bachelor of Nursing selection task (declaration form) to show that you meet the English language requirements for entry to the program. See the Selection tasks page for instructions. If you are applying to RMIT through VTAC, please download and complete the form on the VTAC course page and attached the signed form to your VTAC application. Your application for the Bachelor of Nursing cannot be considered until this declaration has been submitted. Nurses use their clinical judgement to advocate and promote safe healthcare environments. They are also involved in education and research, shaping health policy and approaches to patient care. As a registered nurse, you will perform complex assessments of the physical and psychological needs of patients and put together care plans for their treatment and recovery. You will medical staff who perform invasive or complex procedures, educate patients to promote self-care and health, perform clinical tasks such as wound management and medication administration, and supervise other nurses or healthcare workers. Yes. The NMBA English Language Skills Registration Standard (2025), which came into effect on 18 March 2025, applies to all nurses applying for initial registration, regardless of whether they qualified in Australia or overseas. This means graduates of the Bachelor of Nursing will need to meet this standard when applying for registration.
Yes. Changes to the minimum scores required for accepted English language tests are in effect from 23 April 2026. Applicants planning to take an English test as part of their registration application should review the transition arrangements policy available on the Ahpra website to understand how these changes may affect them.

The NMBA's registration standard outlines pathways for applicants to demonstrate evidence of their English language skills, and a pathways diagram is available to help applicants understand their options.
