The Bachelor of Nursing requires a minimum of 800 hours of professional experience across clinical placements. Clinical placements commence in Semester 2 for full-time first-year students, are two to four weeks in duration, and are organised in cooperation with the Sydney Adventist Hospital and many other hospitals, specialist mental health facilities, paediatric units, aged care and community facilities within Sydney, Central Coast and Hunter New England areas.
To be eligible to attend clinical placements, students must meet requirements including: vaccinations in accordance with NSW Health policy (including mandatory COVID-19 and annual influenza vaccinations), a National Criminal Record Check, a First Aid Certificate (HLTAID011), a Working with Children Check, and an NDIS Workers Screening Check. Students must also complete the NSW Health Compulsory Compliance Day and wear the Avondale University nursing uniform during all placements.
Yes, the Bachelor of Nursing is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) for the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). Upon completion, graduates are eligible to apply for nurse registration with AHPRA, which oversees the NMBA. Due to mutual recognition legislation, registration may also be granted in New Zealand.
Yes, applicants who have completed prior study may be eligible for advanced standing. Applicants with a Diploma of Nursing completed within the last five years through a Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia approved program of study may qualify for up to 8 units of credit or the first year of the course. Applicants should discuss their eligibility with the Admissions Team or the Course Convenor.
Clinical placements are provided in cooperation with the Sydney Adventist Hospital, Newcastle Private, Wyong Hospital, Gosford Public and Private Hospitals, specialist mental health facilities, paediatric units, and aged care and community facilities. Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
