Anatomy and Physiology for Health Care
Learn the typical structure (anatomy) and function (physiology) of the human body, focusing on the contributions of the major body systems to health and wellbeing across the lifespan.
Concepts of Nursing 1: Introduction to the Profession
Centres on the foundational knowledge and skills relating to professionalism, practising in the discipline of nursing and being part of a regulated profession, including the Standards and Codes that regulate nursing practice.
Foundations of Nursing 1
Introduces foundational knowledge and skills required of registered nurses by examining a person-centred approach to nursing care, including culturally safe healthcare practice.
Primary Health Care
Introduces Primary Health Care philosophy, principles and practices including social justice, health equity, social determinants of health, empowerment, and health promotion.
Pathophysiology for Health Care
Builds on knowledge of anatomy and physiology to develop an understanding of the principles of pathophysiology and alterations in the health of the body systems.
Nursing Practice 1
Builds on fundamental knowledge and skills introduced in Foundations of Nursing 1, incorporating 80 hours of Professional Experience Placement (PEP) and highlighting the Professional Practice Framework and NMBA Registered Nurse Standards.
Mental Health
Introduces mental health and mental ill-health in the context of contemporary nursing practice, emphasising person-centred approaches, recovery oriented and trauma informed practice.
Foundations of Nursing 2
Builds on key concepts introduced in Foundations of Nursing 1, developing knowledge and skills regarding health assessment across the life span and its relation to the National Safety framework.
Common Questions
You must complete a minimum of 800 hours of Professional Experience Placement (PEP) across five different clinical and healthcare environments during your studies. Placements are located in healthcare settings including rural and community environments throughout Tasmania and NSW, and students may be required to travel and relocate.
Yes. The Commonwealth Prac Payment offers nursing students financial support while undertaking mandatory placements. From July 2025, eligible students will be able to access $319.50 per week for 20 weeks (benchmarked to the single Austudy rate) while on placement. Additionally, if you need to study away from home, the Relocation and Travel Support Allowance helps cover accommodation and associated costs within Tasmania.
Yes. After your first year of study, you have the option — based on your GPA and placement availability — to undertake an accelerated plan to complete the entire degree in just two years. By utilising spring, summer, and winter study periods in year 2, you complete the same number of units in a shorter time, graduating sooner and allowing you to start your career faster.
Yes. The Bachelor of Nursing is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC). Graduates may meet the requirements for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra) as a Registered Nurse, though there may be additional requirements for registration beyond the completion of the course.
The course maintains a maximum 1:12 staff-to-student ratio for practical and simulation experiences, and a 1:9 ratio in simulated learning environments and practicals, ensuring you receive real-time feedback and support in purpose-built, state-of-the-art simulation labs.
