• Eligibility for admission to this program is based on applicants meeting the minimum selection rank, or satisfying the requirements for an approved admission scheme.
• The University of Newcastle accepts a range of qualifications to determine eligibility for admission. These include, but are not limited to, Australian or overseas senior secondary qualifications (such as the HSC), prior tertiary studies, prior TAFE/VET studies, and completed enabling programs.
• The Bachelor of Nursing does not accept Certificate III; however, the School Based Traineeship (SBT) may be recognised for admission.

Domestic students

• Minimum selection rank: 70.00 (Newcastle), 70.00 (Gosford).

• Assumed knowledge: English (any level) and Mathematics Standard plus Biology and/or Chemistry.

International students

• English language proficiency (IELTS Academic or approved equivalent): overall minimum 7; Listening 7, Reading 7, Speaking 7, Writing 6.5.

Additional requirements

• In addition to the University’s English Proficiency requirements for admission, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) has English language skills standards which applies to all nurses and midwives applying for initial registration.

• Before being considered for admission to the Bachelor of Nursing program, all applicants must complete a declaration confirming that they satisfy one of the following NMBA pathways:
• English is your primary language - You have attended and satisfactorily completed at least six years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English in a recognised country, including at least two years between years 7 and 12,: OR
• English is NOT your primary language – you have undertaken an accepted English Language Proficiency test no more than two years before commencement of the degree for which you are applying (evidence of test completion must be provided); OR
• You are an enrolled nurse with current AHPRA registration - English language requirements will have been demonstrated for enrolled nurse registration at the NMBA (evidence of registration must be provided).

Domestic Applicants

• As part of your admission application, you will be presented with a questionnaire and be required to declare which pathway applies to you. You will be contacted if any additional information is required based on your declaration.

International Applicants

• International students must provide evidence of meeting the English Language requirement at the time of application.
