Common Questions
You will complete 800 hours of professional experience placements in various metropolitan, regional and rural healthcare settings, under the supervision of qualified practitioners. Beginning soon after commencement of the course, early exposure to the clinical environment gives you extensive opportunities to develop clinical skills in settings including acute/sub-acute care, medical and surgical care, paediatrics, aged care, rehabilitation, community nursing and mental health nursing. Note that there is an expectation you will be available to undertake clinical practicum outside of trimester dates, and all expenses associated with professional experience placements are your own responsibility.
You are required to complete three mandatory checks: a Police Record Check (required prior to professional experience placements in each calendar year of your course), a Working with Children Check (required at the commencement of your course in accordance with the Worker Screening Act 2020), and you must declare your Immunisation Status to satisfy the requirements of health organisations where you will undertake clinical learning experience. Students who fail to obtain a Police Record Check or Working with Children Check prior to the commencement of professional experience placement will not be able to undertake the placement, which will impede progress in the course.
The nursing component of your degree provides eligibility to become a registered nurse through the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). The psychology stream is recognised by the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) and is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC), which is the first step toward becoming a registered psychologist. To gain full registration as a psychologist, you would need to complete an approved fourth year of psychology study such as the Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours) or Graduate Diploma of Psychology (Advanced) to apply for provisional registration, followed by a further two years of postgraduate study for general registration.
To complete the Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Psychological Science, you must pass 32 credit points, which includes 20 credit points of core nursing units and 12 credit points of core psychology units. The course is 4 years full-time and is only available to students on a full-time basis. As a full-time student you will study four credit points per trimester and usually undertake two trimesters per year. You may be able to study available units in the optional third trimester to fast-track your degree; however, your course duration may be extended if there are delays in meeting course requirements, such as completing a placement.
The Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Psychological Science is available at three campuses: Burwood (Melbourne) with a lowest selection rank ATAR of 77.5, Waterfront (Geelong) with a lowest selection rank ATAR of 73.2, and Warrnambool where the ATAR is unpublished (meaning the course is available but the lowest selection rank of an applicant to which an offer was made is not available). All figures are based on 2026 early and first round VTAC offers, including relevant adjustment factors. Please note there are limited places in this course and entry is competitive, so applicants are strongly encouraged to submit an application as soon as possible.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
